The tramway is a way for a growing city to manage and guide its growth. The tramway is a high-capacity public transportation system that is part of the F\u00f6li.<\/h2>\n

Turku’s tram line runs through the growing city, from Linnakaupunki through the city center and Kupittaa to Varissuo.<\/h3>\n

Along the 12-kilometer route are homes, workplaces, schools, educational institutions, recreational and sports facilities, and city services. The route also includes train stations and the port, through which thousands of passengers pass every day.<\/p>\n

The tramway would be part of the F\u00f6li.<\/h3>\n

The tramway would complement public transportation in Turku and serve as one of F\u00f6li\u2019s trunklines. Passengers could use the same ticket as on the buses.<\/p>\n

The stops serve residents, workplaces, and services both now and in the future.<\/h3>\n

There will be 20 accessible stops along the line. The average distance between stops is 600 meters.<\/p>\n

A tram can carry nearly as many passengers as three buses.<\/h3>\n

A tram can carry 220\u2013260 passengers. The trams are accessible. The trams have spacious interiors with plenty of seating as well as room for wheelchairs and strollers. A total of 14 trams will be purchased.<\/p>\n

The tram is fast and runs frequently.<\/h3>\n

The trams run every 7.5 minutes. Market Square\u2013Port 13 min. Market Square\u2013Kupittaa 10 min. Kupittaa\u2013Varissuo 14 min. From terminal to terminal 37 min.<\/p>\n

With the tramway, Turku will gain 12 kilometers of new, pleasant, and functional urban environment.<\/h3>\n

With the tramway, the streets along the route will be renovated from wall to wall, including underground. In Turku, public transit lanes will be built, sidewalks will be improved, high-quality bike lanes will be constructed, roadways will be renovated, and pavement will be replaced. The amount of street greenery and trees will increase on Turku\u2019s streets.<\/p>\n

By 2050, one in three Turku residents and nearly half of all workplaces will be located along the tram route.<\/h3>\n

Currently, one in four Turku residents lives along the line. The line connects Turku\u2019s growing areas and key urban development zones, such as Linnakaupunki, the city center, and Science Park.<\/p>\n

If the decision is made to build the tramway, tram service in Turku would begin in 2033.<\/h3>\n

Before tram service begins in Turku, the tramway must be built. All streets along the entire 12-kilometer tram line will be renovated, archaeological surveys will be conducted, and trams suitable for Turku will be procured.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n
