About the tramway

Now underway is the final planning phase of the tramway before possible construction.

Public transport in a growing city must be developed in bigger leaps. We are planning a tramway as to be a part of the Föli.

The Turku tramline will run from the ferry terminal through the city center and Kupittaa to Varissuo.

The 12-kilometer route will serve homes, workplaces, schools, educational institutions, leisure and sports facilities as well as city services.

The stops will serve residents, workplaces, and services now and in the future.

There will be 20 accessible tramstops along the route. The average distance between stops is 600 meters.

Each tram can carry 220–260 passengers.

The trams are accessible. They have spacious interiors with plenty of seating and room for strollers. Fourteen trams will be purchased.

Trams are fast and run frequently.

Market squareFerry terminal 13 min. Market squareKupittaa 10 min. Kupittaa-Varissuo 14 min. From terminus to terminus 37 min. Interval is 7.5 min.

In 2050, one of three Turku residents will live and almost half of all jobs will be located along the tram route.

The route will connect Turku’s growing areas and significant urban development sites, such as Linnakaupunki, the city center, and the Science Park.

The tramway will bring 12 kilometers of new, pleasant, and functional city to Turku.

Sidewalks will be renovated, high-quality bike paths will be built, and new lanes will be added for car traffic.
