About the tramway

We are building the tramway from from Linnakaupunki through the city center and Kupittaa to Varissuo. Trams return to Turku in 2033.

The tramway supports and guides Turku’s rapid growth and ensures smooth daily life well into the future. As part of Föli’s services, the trams provide Turku residents with a high-capacity mode of public transportation.

See how the tramway changes Turku:

  • The tram line runs from Linnakaupunki through the city center and Kupittaa to Varissuo.
  • Along the route are homes, workplaces, schools, educational institutions, recreational and sports facilities, and city services.
  • The 20 stops serve residents, workplaces, and services both now and in the future.
  • With the tramway, Turku will gain 12 kilometers of new, pleasant, and functional urban environment.
  • By 2050, one in three Turku residents and nearly half of all workplaces will be located along the tram route.
  • The tramway would be part of the Föli. Passengers could use the same ticket as on the buses.
  • A tram can carry nearly as many passengers as three buses.
  • The tram is fast and runs frequently. The trams run every 7.5 minutes.
