For decades, Turku’s growth was very slow, but now the city is booming. In just 15 years, Turku is will have 40 000-60 000 more inhabitants than today.  

The tramway is one of the major development projects of a growing Turku, which aims to ensure a vibrant, functional and comfortable city for all residents, now and in the future. The city is not only developed to meet the needs of the present, but the future, too.  

Tramway connects and regenerates 

The tramway, which will be part of Föli, will improve and complement Turku’s public transportation system. With the tramway, more and more of us will choose public transport which is effective.   

Homes, workplaces, schools, educational institutions, public services and cultural, leisure and recreational facilities are located along the tramline.  

The tramway will create 12 kilometers of new, pleasant and functional city environment in Turku. Pavements will be improved, cyclists will have high-quality routes, and new lanes will be built for cars. Public transport lanes will be built for trams and buses, making public transport fast and convenient.
